Angular contact thrust ball bearings
Accommodate axial and radial loads
High load carrying capacity
High axial stiffness
SKF angular contact thrust ball bearings are available on request, with a maximum outside diameter of 1 800 mm, in two main designs:
Single direction angular contact thrust ball bearings (fig. 1)
Double direction angular contact thrust ball bearings (fig. 2)
Single direction angular contact thrust ball bearings
Single direction angular contact thrust ball bearings (fig. 1) are designed to accommodate axial loads in one direction only and therefore are adjusted against a second bearing or mounted as sets. In their main application area of rotary tables, two bearings are always used and adjusted against each other.
Double direction angular contact thrust ball bearings
Double direction angular contact thrust ball bearings consist of one housing washer, two shaft washers and two different-size ball and cage assemblies (fig. 2. The larger bearing half has a higher load carrying capacity. Double direction angular contact thrust ball bearings have a low height and can accommodate axial loads in both directions as well as moment loads. A single bearing can therefore be used to support rotating machine components relative to stationary components.
SKF angular contact thrust ball bearings, if not full complement of balls, are fitted with a window-type machined brass cage (fig. 3), either shaft or housing washer centred.
Double direction bearings are equipped with two different-size cages.
For information about the suitability of cages, refer to Cages.
Not standardized – dictated by the application

Double direction bearings:

Cannot tolerate any angular misalignment.
The dimensional stability of the bearing washers and balls
Where temperatures outside the permissible range are expected, contact SKF.
Bearing washers and balls
SKF angular contact thrust ball bearings are heat stabilized up to at least 150 °C (300 °F).
Brass cages can be used at the same operating temperatures as the bearing washers and balls.
For temperature limits of SKF greases, refer to Selecting a suitable SKF grease.
When using lubricants not supplied by SKF, temperature limits should be evaluated according to the SKF traffic light concept.
